Essential oils and CNS Medications

This will be a short post. As many of you know my main concern is using essential oils safely as to improve and not harm yourself or others. Unforunately, there is not enough information out there for us to find as to how essential oils interact with other medications which can be dangerous to our health.

It has been discovered that using certain essential oils with CNS medication can be dangerous due to either decreasing, increasing and or potential drug reactions. This discovery was in a case of Zyprexa and valerian essential oil. The valerian essential oil was being used in diffuser and as a roller oil blend. A negative adverse reactions was notice every time valerian was used in both application. Once the valerian was no longer used the reaction ceased to exist.

Since this reaction a more intense research of essential oil and reaction to medication is on going. It is very very slow ongoing since there usually little reported when a reaction is notice. Also not realizing reactions that are connected to essential oils since so many do not understand the chemicals in the oils and that there could be an interaction with medications is another reason reports are not made.

It is very important when adding even natural/homeopathic remedies while on medications to keep a record of any changes that are noticed.

Essential oils are a great way to improve your well being in many ways as long as one is aware there are safety issues using them. Each person depending on their health issues may have some essential oils that can be dangerous for them to use. Always remember to research the information and becareful who you are receiving the information from. It is always best to search out a Certified Aromatherapist with 300 plus professional training to receive the best information.
